Areas of practice
BASIX
BASIX is a sustainability scheme which overrides the BCA energy efficiency requirements of residential buildings in NSW and offers much more flexibility and diversity in the areas of energy efficiency, thermal comfort and water efficiency. BASIX is proved to be one of the most successful sustainability schemes in Australia with documented records of energy and water saving and reduction of GHG emissions. NABERS
NABERS is a national sustainability scheme introduced by Australian government which measures and rates an existing building's sustainability performance in the areas of energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environment conditions, waste generation and waste recycling. NABERS is currently a voluntarily sustainability scheme but plans are in development to make it mandatory in several types of existing buildings in form of mandatory disclosure regulations. BCA Section J
Building Code of Australia Section J Energy Efficiency sets the benchmarks that a building design must reach in order to satisfy the BCA Section J compliance requirements. Each building must demonstrate its compliance with the BCA before construction and therefore a BCA Section J report is normally compiled to show the compliance of the proposed development. NatHERS
NatHERS is the governing regulation behind the computer thermal simulation of residential buildings in Australia as addressed in the BCA. A NatHERS thermal simulation is required to accompany a development application for a residential building in the majority of the Australian states. in NSW a NatHERS simulation is required for certain type of developments in the BASIX scheme. Green Star
Green Star is a voluntary sustainability rating scheme developed by the Green Building Council of Australia. At present Green Star is the most comprehensive and complex sustainability rating scheme in Australia which covers a wide range of development types in many areas of sustainability performance. NGER
NGER stands for National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting by which the Australian government is planning to monitor the GHG emission of major Australian polluters. A NGER report needs to be submitted annually for the registered companies who meet a certain threshold in energy consumption, energy generation, GHG emissions and in several other criteria. BEEC
BEEC or Building Energy Efficiency Certificate is required to be registered by government national registry from 1st November 2010 for any commercial office building with more that 2000 m² NLA which wants to advertise for lease or purchase to potential customers. BEEC is governed by Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Bill 2010 and have a transitional period of one year before its full implementation starts in 2011.
